127th Street Resurfacing Starts Monday in Alsip and Blue Island, With Daytime Lane Closures Through Late November
IDOT's $1.1 million patching and resurfacing job covers 3.3 miles from Laramie Avenue to Western Avenue. Expect intermittent daytime lane closures — and keep an alternate route ready.

South suburban drivers get a new work zone on Monday. The Illinois Department of Transportation says resurfacing of 127th Street — from Laramie Avenue in Alsip to Western Avenue in Blue Island — will require intermittent daytime lane closures beginning Monday, Nov. 2, weather permitting.
The $1.1 million project is patching and resurfacing across a 3.3-mile stretch of the corridor. Access to homes and businesses inside the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, IDOT says, but the department is direct about the trade-off: expect delays, allow extra time, and use alternate routes where you can. Drivers are also urged to watch for flaggers and signs, obey posted speed limits in the work zone, and stay alert for workers and equipment.
The work is not a one-and-done. This first phase runs through late November, then pauses for the winter and resumes next spring, with the project wrapping up late summer 2027. The resurfacing is part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, under which IDOT plans improvements across thousands of lane miles statewide over the next six years.
For Monday's commute, the practical advice is simple: if 127th Street between Alsip and Blue Island is your route, leave earlier than usual, and check current conditions at GettingAroundIllinois.com before you go — the closures are intermittent and daytime-only, which means the street will look different at 9 a.m. than it does at noon.
