Chicago police have released fuller details of the shooting that wounded a 15-year-old boy in Austin early Sunday, FOX 32 Chicago reported, attributing the account to the Chicago Police Department. Officers responded to the 5400 block of West Fulton Street a little before 1 a.m., police said.

The boy was walking with friends on the sidewalk when an unknown male approached the group, according to police. The two sides got into a verbal altercation, and the man fired shots, hitting the 15-year-old in the thigh before fleeing the scene, police said.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene and took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said. Police did not provide a description of the gunman, and Area detectives are investigating. Chicago Windy City News carried the first confirmed facts of this shooting this morning, before the block and the boy's condition had been released; no name has been released for the boy, and none is carried here.
