Bears Backup Tyson Bagent Draws Trade Buzz as Baltimore's Quarterback Emergency Meets the Deadline, a Report Says (Chicago Windy City News)

Chicago's quarterback depth — the quiet kind of asset that only becomes news when somebody else runs out of it — is drawing outside interest a week before the NFL trade deadline, according to a report published Monday. In his Week 8 takeaways for The Athletic, Michael Silver noted the Baltimore Ravens' sudden quarterback emergency and floated Bears backup Tyson Bagent among several veteran options who could help Baltimore salvage its season, the report said.

The emergency is real on Baltimore's side of the ledger. Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury that sent him to injured reserve, and Tyler Huntley also left Sunday's loss to Buffalo with a toe issue, according to the report. Bagent's name fits the situation for a specific reason beyond his play: he previously worked under Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle during Doyle's time in Chicago, so the system would not be new to him. The Nov. 10 trade deadline gives the two teams a short window, with Baltimore facing a Thursday night game against Jacksonville.

From Chicago's side, nothing in the report suggests urgency. Bagent, the undrafted former Shepherd quarterback who has spent years earning the Halas Hall staff's trust as the No. 2 behind Caleb Williams, signed a two-year, $10 million extension last year, and the Bears rebuffed inquiries about him over the summer, according to the report; his depth already proved useful this year when Williams missed time with a hamstring injury. Veteran Case Keenum also remains on the roster, so Chicago would not be left without an experienced option — but with the 5-2 Bears in Seattle for Monday Night Football tonight, any move would come from a position of leverage, and the report frames the interest as a measure of Bagent's standing rather than a deal in motion. No trade has been reported as made or agreed.
