127th Street Resurfacing Starts Monday Between Alsip and Blue Island, With Daytime Lane Closures
IDOT's $1.1 million project patches and resurfaces 3.3 miles of 127th Street from Laramie Avenue to Western Avenue — expect intermittent daytime lane closures through late November, then again next spring.

Resurfacing work on 127th Street begins Monday, November 2, and drivers between Alsip and Blue Island should expect intermittent daytime lane closures, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced. The work runs the length of 127th Street from Laramie Avenue in Alsip to Western Avenue in Blue Island, weather permitting, and IDOT warns the public to expect delays, allow extra time, and consider alternate routes.
The $1.1 million project consists of patching and resurfacing the 3.3-mile stretch. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, IDOT said. The work is anticipated to continue through late November, then pause and resume next spring, with the project wrapping up late summer 2027. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
The 127th Street job is part of Rebuild Illinois, the state capital program IDOT says is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation; over the next six years the department plans to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck statewide. For the wider Chicago drive, the Travel Midwest incident feed read by this desk at check time listed no active incidents on the region's expressways, with the Kennedy and Dan Ryan work zones flowing — the new 127th Street closures are the day's addition to the map.
