Bears Release Defensive Back Anthony Johnson From the Practice Squad Ahead of the Seahawks Game
The Bears parted ways with safety Anthony Johnson on the NFL transaction wire, ending an injury-interrupted practice-squad stint before the team travels to Seattle for Monday night's game at Lumen Field.

The Chicago Bears have released defensive back Anthony Johnson from the practice squad, according to the NFL transaction wire, a move that lands days before the team's Monday night matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
Johnson, a 26-year-old safety out of Iowa State, entered the league as a seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2023 and appeared in a dozen games as a rookie, logging 24 tackles and an interception. He added nine appearances for the New York Giants in 2024 before landing with the Bears as a free agent this past May.
His Chicago stint never reached the active roster. The Bears waived him during final roster cuts in late August, brought him back to the practice squad in early September, and placed him on the practice-squad injured list on September 18 with an undisclosed injury, where he remained until the release. He never took a regular-season snap for Chicago.
The timing leaves little immediate impact on the Bears' secondary heading into Seattle: the move clears a practice-squad spot without altering the active 53-man group that will travel to Lumen Field. Chicago sits at 5-2 under head coach Ben Johnson, and Monday's game against the 4-3 Seahawks presents a clear test for a Bears team built around one of the league's stronger rushing attacks.
