At Least 13 Shot, 3 Fatally, Across Chicago Over Halloween Weekend, Police Say (Chicago Windy City News)

Chicago's Halloween weekend left at least 13 people shot and three killed across the city, according to Chicago police, with several additional victims critically injured. The tally, compiled by Sunday, runs from a Friday-night argument in Mayfair to a fatal shooting on the South Side early Sunday, and it does not include a separate homicide in suburban Oak Park that added to the weekend's violence in the wider Chicago area.

The violence began Friday night in Mayfair, where a 35-year-old man was fatally shot during an argument shortly before 11:30 p.m., police said; a person of interest was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered. Just after 12:20 a.m. Saturday in Washington Park, near East 50th Place and South Vincennes Avenue, a 19-year-old man was shot in the head and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the stomach; both were listed in critical condition, at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Comer Children's Hospital respectively — an incident this station covered as it broke. On Saturday evening in North Lawndale, around 5:18 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Ogden Avenue, three people standing on a sidewalk were shot when two armed offenders exited a vehicle and opened fire before fleeing, police said: a 29-year-old man struck in the chest later died, a 23-year-old man shot in the stomach was in critical condition, and a 35-year-old woman shot in the left leg was in good condition.

Early Sunday brought two more shootings. Around 2 a.m. in the 6500 block of South Francisco Avenue, a 41-year-old man became involved in an argument with an unidentified individual who pulled out a firearm and shot him, according to police; the victim drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he later died. At approximately 12:53 a.m. in Austin, in the 5400 block of West Fulton Street, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the thigh while walking with friends after a verbal altercation with an unknown gunman; he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said, and area detectives are investigating.

Outside the city, Oak Park police said a woman was fatally shot in the suburb shortly after midnight Sunday, and investigators recovered approximately 29 shell casings from the scene; the circumstances were still under investigation. Police released no victim or suspect names in the weekend reporting, and investigations into the Chicago shootings remain ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather information and identify those responsible.
