Wolves Salute Military Families at Sunday's 3 P.M. Game Against Grand Rapids at Allstate Arena (Chicago Windy City News)

Sunday afternoon hockey in Rosemont comes with a salute. The Chicago Wolves' 3 p.m. game against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Allstate Arena is the Veteran Social Club's Salute to Military Families game, an afternoon built to honor military families with complimentary tickets provided by the Vet Center. The tickets were distributed through the Evanston Vet Center — picked up at the center during business hours or by appointment ahead of game time — and the listing for the event has closed with the puck about to drop.

For everyone else heading to 6920 Mannheim Road, the arena's own page sets the scene: the Wolves are the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, pregame fireworks and the antics of mascot Skates are part of the afternoon, parking runs $25 by cash or credit card with lots opening two hours before the game, and tailgating is not permitted.

The hockey underneath the ceremony is worth the trip on its own. The Wolves roared back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Texas Stars 6-3 at Allstate on Saturday night, the club's official report noted — after dropping their first four games of the season, Chicago has come out on top in five of its last six and moved to 5-4-0-1. Grand Rapids, the league's early measuring stick, is the opponent this afternoon in the rivals' second meeting of the season.
