Woman Fatally Shot in Oak Park Early Sunday, With Police Recovering About 29 Shell Casings, Reports Say (Chicago Windy City News)

A woman was fatally shot in Oak Park shortly after midnight on Sunday, in a shooting that left investigators collecting evidence across the scene, according to reports of the Oak Park Police Department's account. Police said investigators recovered approximately 29 shell casings at the scene, and a CBS 2 Chicago report from the suburb counted at least 30 evidence markers on the ground early Sunday.

Oak Park is a Cook County suburb directly west of Chicago's Austin neighborhood, and the killing came on a Halloween weekend that had already filled Chicago's own police tally with gunfire inside the city limits. The Oak Park case is a separate jurisdiction's investigation and is not part of the Chicago Police Department's city count.

As of Sunday afternoon, officials had released few details: no name for the woman has been made public, and police have not described a suspect or a motive in the material available to this desk. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still under investigation, police said. This story will be updated as Oak Park police release confirmed information; details are still coming from officials.
